Details
Carbomer is a kind of acrylic acid resin. When water is rising, adding a small amount of mixture (such as triethanolamine and sodium hydroxide), a high transparent gel is formed. Different types of carbomer represent different viscosity, such as short rheological or long rheological, such as: Kapo 940 has a short rheological property, and the viscosity reaches 63000MPA.S at 0.5%, which is suitable for products with high viscosity. Carbo 941 has long rheological properties, and its viscosity reaches 7500mpa. S at 0.5%. It is suitable for low viscosity products. The corresponding model of carbomer has ion or salt resistance, which is suitable for daily chemical and industrial products.
Method of dissolving carbomer:
A: The common method is the next day dissolution method: soak the next day and the previous day. First add carbomer in deionized water according to the actual production requirements without stirring. After carbomer absorbs water naturally, subject to the absence of white powder on the surface, add neutralizer (triethanolamine or sodium hydroxide solution), adjust the pH value to about 7, and use a circular tool or disperser, Stir evenly at low speed.
B: dissolve with high speed dispersant: add in the actual production ratio, dispersing machine without white powder, adding neutralizer, forming gel, and then use vacuum emulsification pot to remove the air from the gel. Think again and get rid of the unresolved carbomer.
C: If common methods are used for dissolution: carbomer cannot be stirred when added into water. If it is stirred while adding, Carbomer will form a white water ball. The surface has absorbed water, but there is no water in it. After neutralization, many water white spots can be seen, and a large number of bubbles can be formed. Carbomer has high viscosity, and it is difficult to eliminate the bubbles by itself. Even if a certain amount of defoamer is added, it is difficult to eliminate the bubbles. In this case, the bubbles can only be eliminated with a vacuum cooker.
Warm tips: the dispersion time of various models of carbomer in water is related to the water temperature and quality. It is recommended to use deionized water to make the product more stable, dissolve directly in organic solutes, and the measurement time is longer. For example, for solid alcohol, Carbomer 940, 941, 934, 980 and 981 need to be soaked for about 8 hours, Carbomer 2020 U10 and U20 need to be soaked for about 4 hours, and the specific dissolution time is related to the dissolution amount.

Storage: carbomer has strong moisture absorption. Pay attention to sealing during storage to prevent moisture absorption and caking in exposed air. If there is slight caking, it can become loose powder and will not affect the thickening effect. Once the product is used, it is best to put it in a sealed container with desiccant.
Transportation: carbomer is a polyelectrolyte. Friction or extrusion of resin particles sometimes carries static electricity.
