Details
Polyacrylic acid is a colorless or light yellow liquid. It can form stable compounds with metal ions, calcium and magnesium. It has excellent decomposition effect on calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide in water. Carbomer is a crosslink of polyacrylic acid and pentaerythritol. Desheng, a polyacrylic acid raw material, has blood separation gel in addition to carbomer. Today, we will focus on carbomer 940.
Carbomer can be divided into carbomer 900 series and carbomer 1300 series according to different structures of polymer monomers. CP products of different models and uses can be obtained by controlling the relative molecular weight and crosslinking degree of polymers. Cp900 series is obtained by crosslinking acrylic acid monomer with propylene based sucrose or propylene based pentaerythritol. Commonly used models include carbomer 910, 934, 934p, 940, 941, 971P, 974P, etc. Cp900 series carbomer 940 and 980 are the most widely used.

Thickening method of carbomer:
1. Neutralization thickening
Carbomer is usually neutralized into salt to thicken the curled molecules due to the opening of electric repulsion. Sodium hydroxide and triethanolamine are common neutralizers, which is also the reason why carbomer is sensitive to ions.
2. Hydrogen bond thickening
Carbomer molecules as carboxyl donors can combine with one or more hydroxyl groups to form hydrogen bonds and thicken. This neutralization method takes time. The commonly used hydroxyl donors are non-ionic surfactants, polyols, etc.
Carbomer 940 uses: 1. As emulsifier
(1) It is effective at a very low concentration - 0.1-0.5%, replacing the traditional surfactant dosage of 3-7%
(2) Not limited by HLB value and PLT
(3) It can emulsify any liquid oil at room temperature
(4) If the wax is melted in the manufacturing process, the wax can be emulsified

(7) The high oil phase can be dissolved into water to form (O / W) emulsion
(8) moisturizing cream, lotion, cleansing products, sunscreen products, alcohol free perfume, flavor conditioner (enhanced gloss, easy to carding), hand washing agent, low consistency spray emulsion and transparent microemulsion.
2. Used in skin care products
Carbomer 940 is a hydrophilic thickener, stable emulsifier, suspending agent and gel. It has good diaphaneity. It needs to maintain moderate to weak alkalinity before it has consistency. Therefore, it can not coexist with the acid active ingredients. In addition, Carbomer is afraid of salt, so it can not add mineral ions, otherwise the consistency will disappear, which is irritating to the mucous membrane of the eye. Carbomer is a high molecular polymer. The larger the connection number (such as carbomer 940) behind it, the larger the polymerization molecule.
