Tris  (also known as Tris) is an aliphatic compound that acts as a fragrance ingredient and pH adjuster in cosmetics. Safety is a concern of many users. In fact, the technical staff of Desheng Biochemical collected and analyzed the toxicity research data of Tris when they started to produce Tris. Research data is based on actual application concentrations, e.g. <1% in leave-on formulations, 2% in rinse-off formulations, diluted to 7% during dye application, and takes into account other irritation and sensitization data .
Tris (CAS No. 77-86-1) Tris is a more effective buffer than bicarbonate at physiological conditions (pH 7.8; 37°C). The soda ash solution of daily cosmetics will corrode ordinary glass and require alkali-resistant glass. Formulated to prove that Tris is safe in current use and concentration practices, the pH of the cosmetic can be altered by adjusting the mixing/equilibrium with the cosmetic H+.
When the hydrogen ion concentration of Tris is close to 100%, the pH is 6.0. Tris is reported to be stable in light and air, but freezing should be avoided. Preparation method Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane is prepared by reducing tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane. Tris can also be prepared by addition reaction of nitromethylene with trimethyl sulfoxide. Formaldehyde produces tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane, which is then hydrogenated with the help of a Raney nickel catalyst. When tris is decomposed by heating, it emits toxic fumes composed of nitrogen oxides.
Tris is quite common in daily chemicals. According to a Personal Care Products Council (Council) survey of the maximum concentrations of these ingredients. In 480 servings, Tris-on-product and 69 flushable products were used, with a maximum holdover concentration of 4%. Products include eye makeup (up to 2%), fragrance preparations (up to 0.2%) and skin care preparations (up to 4%). Non-cosmetic Tris are used in the synthesis of surfactants, vulcanization accelerators and pharmaceuticals. It is also reported to be used as an emulsifier in cosmetic creams and lotions, mineral oil and paraffin emulsions, leather dressings, textile specialty products, polishes, cleaning agents, so-called soluble oils. It is used as an acid gas absorbent and biological buffer. Tris has also been reported to be used as a commercial emulsifier.
