HEPES is an amphoteric organic chemical buffer, which belongs to one of the twenty good buffers. It does not combine with metal ions and is very soluble in water. It is often added to cell culture medium. Although it has no nutrition for cells, when cell culture needs to be operated outside the CO2 incubator for a long time, the addition of 10 – 25 mm HEPES can provide additional buffer capacity, and the incubator provides a good pH environment for cells.
