MOPS (3-morpholine propane sulfonic acid) is a Good's buffer, a zwitterionic buffer discovered by Good et al. in the 1960s, with a pKa value of 7.14 at 25°C and an effective pH adjustment range of 6.5-7.9. MOPS does not form complexes with most metal ions, and is suitable for buffers in solution systems containing metal ions. MOPS is commonly used in the culture medium of bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells. MOPS is also used as a running buffer in electrophoresis and a buffer in protein purification chromatography.

Commonly used 10×MOPS Buffer configuration methods are as follows:
1. Weigh 41.8 g MOPS and dissolve it in about 700mL DEPC treated water;
2. Use 2 N NaOH to adjust the pH to 7.0;
3. Add 20mL of 1M NaOAC treated with DEPC and 20mL of 0.5M EDTA (pH8.0) to the solution;
4. Dilute the volume to 1 L, filter with a 0.45 μm filter membrane to remove impurities, and store at room temperature away from light.
