3-morpholine propanesulfonic acid, referred to as mops for short, is a zwitterionic buffer reagent commonly used in biochemistry and molecular biology. Mops itself belongs to good's buffer. It can be used not only as a buffer system of cell culture medium, but also as a common electrophoresis buffer and protein purification chromatographic buffer.

What experiments can mops be used for

1. As running buffer in electrophoresis and protein purification in chromatography; 2. Prepare a variety of agar media for the culture of bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells. Mops transportation and storage

Mops powder can be stored at room temperature for several years. However, once standing, the bulk powder may gather together to form hard blocks, but its chemical properties will not be affected. Mops solution can be stored at 2-8 ℃ for at least 6 months with 0.2 μ M. high pressure sterilization is not recommended. If it is necessary to prepare mops solution without nuclease, the water can be autoclaved before adding powder for dissolution

Characteristics of mops buffer

(1) It has good solubility in aqueous solution, and the aqueous solution is colorless and transparent;

(2) It is chemically stable, has no toxicity to organisms and has no obvious permeability to biofilm;

(3) The acid-base dissociation constant (pKa value) is stable, generally 6-8, the ability to release protons is stable, and is less affected by ion concentration, solution composition and temperature;

(4) It is not a metabolite, activator or inhibitor of biochemical reaction series, nor an enzyme substrate, that is, it does not react with a variety of enzymes and chemical reagents. When used in tissue culture, virus diagnosis and other tests, cells show high vitality.

(5) In fact, there is no characteristic absorption in UV wave, and there is weak absorption only when the wavelength is less than 230-240nm, so it does not interfere with the usual photometric measurement.
